Position Title: English Teacher

Location: Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Status Full time, Ongoing

POSITION SUMMARY

The position of English Teacher is responsible for teaching, monitoring, and observing student’s development. He/she must teach with a clear objective which follows the course outline/ curriculum and employ a variety of teaching and learning strategies that make learning fun yet challenge those who need it and support those having difficulties. The teacher must be able to cooperate as part of a teaching team to plan lessons that meet students’ needs, interests and abilities. GWS students come from different backgrounds and the teacher must be able to promote a nurturing atmosphere to support student’s emotional well-being and positive social interaction. In addition, the teacher is expected to evaluate students and communicate student progress effectively, both orally and in writing with relevant staff. The position of English teacher requires individuals to be flexible and willing to improve, learn and reflect upon their own professional performance as they strive to maintain and improve their own professional competencies

REPORTING
Reports to: Education Coordinator/Head Teacher
Key Liaison: Education Management Team, General Manager/Principal

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS (KRA)
GWS is a values based school where visible leadership, integrity, transparency, responsibility and accountability are expected and where staff is accountable for demonstrating these values in their work and behaviors.
1. Cooperate as a member of a teaching team to plan lessons that meet individual students’ needs, interests and abilities.
2. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
3. Promote a nurturing atmosphere to support the student’s emotional well-being and positive social interaction.
4. Provide a learning environment to promote respect, while encouraging self-expression.
5. Prepare daily lesson plans and establish clear learning objectives. These shall be based on the GSW curriculum, making use of core teaching resources and supplementary materials.
6. Maintain accurate and complete records as required by GWS
7. Take all necessary precautions to protect, maintain and return all equipment and materials.
8. Attend meetings, teacher seminars/trainings as required.
9. Model GWS’s values and behaviors within and outside the classroom.
10. Maintain excellent communication with the Principal/General Manager/Education Coordinator in all matters relating to the English program and student wellbeing.
11. Create homework for students.
12. Complete daily attendance according to GSW procedures.
13. Apply a student-centered environment in order to make the class more interesting and challenging for students.
14. Promote an English speaking environment and encourage students to speak English as much as possible.
15. Encourage students to set and maintain appropriate standards of classroom behavior through the creation of classroom agreements that outline expected behaviors inside and outside the classroom.
16. Give advice and talk to individual to students who have not followed classrooms agreements and expectations. Suggest ideas to help them be better students.
17. Report any concerns or issues regarding student behavior, health, hygiene or well-being to the relevant staff.
18. Be punctual for all lessons, meetings and responsibilities.
19. Decorate the classroom and make/prepare resources that support learning e.g. posters, flashcards, and visual aids.
